LLEN Overview - Geelong Region LLEN

The Geelong Region Local Learning and Employment Network (GR LLEN) was established in 2001 and covers the City of Greater Geelong, Borough of Queenscliffe, Surf Coast Shire and the Southern end of Golden Plains Shire.  SGR LLEN has significant responsibility for planning and brokering partnerships to deliver an integrated and seamless post-compulsory education, training and employment system to meet the needs of young people in the 10-19 year age group.

GRLLEN brings together local education providers, employers, councils and other interested people in the community to:

  • Identify gaps in the provision of education and training locally

  • Plan the development and delivery of educational programs for young people which will assist in meeting the targets for better completion rates and employment outcomes

  • Take a strategic approach to developing pathways for local young people, especially those at risk of dropping out

  • Monitor these pathways and outcomes to ensure they are beneficial to young people

  • Advise the Victorian Skills Commission (VSC) on the needs of young people in the region.

Membership of the GRLLEN is very broad and comprises 400 members drawn from government and non-government schools, businesses, unions, education and training providers, employment brokers, community and youth agencies, neighbourhood houses, government departments and a range of interested individuals.
